Many of our Austin, TX, patients suffer from varying degrees of dental phobia and anxiety, and our advanced sedation dentistry techniques can help them completely relax like never before.
Though sedation dentistry is particularly beneficial for anxious patients, it can also help anyone who has a hard time getting numb or can’t comfortably sit for periods of time. It is also excellent for someone who needs to relax when a lengthy dental procedure is required. We offer a variety of treatment options at varying levels of sedation. Based upon your individual needs, we will help you choose the correct level for you.
What is Sedation Dentistry?
Sometimes called relaxation dentistry, sedation dentistry is a safe and practical method of managing pain and anxiety through the use of medication, allowing comfortable dental treatment for many patients, including those with special needs.
You may be a great candidate for sedation dentistry if you experience one or more of the following:
- High fear of dental care
- Complex dental problems
- Traumatic dental experiences
- Fear of needles and shots
- Trouble getting numb
- Sensitive Teeth
The Types Sedation Dentistry We Offer
Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous oxide, also referred to as “laughing gas,” is a gentle way to help ease mild anxiety surrounding dental treatment. It is one of the most common forms of sedation today, and for most patients, it is sufficient to help them relax and feel comfortable. Nitrous oxide is very safe and predictable, and patients can even drive themselves home following the appointment.
Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral conscious sedation is rapidly gaining popularity because of its ease and effectiveness. We simply prescribe an oral medication to be taken before the appointment. Patients arrive at our office feeling a deep relaxation and drowsiness while still being able to speak and respond to external requests. Patients using this type of sedation must have someone who can transport them to and from the appointment.
IV Sedation
For patients who experience extreme anxiety, lengthy dental appointments or oral surgery, we offer the deepest level of relaxation dentistry available right here in our office through IV sedation. A licensed anesthesiologist is available to administer a deeper level of sedation, allowing you to remain in the comfort of our office and the security of being with the team you know.
